ICICI Bank Fresher Jobs 2026: Roles, Entry Routes, Targets and Honest Prep
Updated August 2026 · Figures are indicative — always confirm on ICICI Bank's official careers page
This site carries several pages on banking technology centres — Wells Fargo, Deutsche Bank, Bank of America — and a banking and finance question set, and until now not one page on an actual Indian bank. That is a strange gap, because a private bank is one of the largest employers of graduates in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana who did not study computer science, and it hires in towns where no IT company has an office. ICICI Bank is one of the largest of them, so it is the right page to write first.
It is worth saying plainly what this page will not do, which is treat banking as the thing you settle for when placements do not work out. That framing is common in college corridors and it is wrong in both directions: wrong about the work, which is skilled and difficult in ways a services fresher role is not, and wrong about the people, because the graduate who takes a relationship role in Vijayawada and the one who takes a services offer in Hyderabad are frequently the same calibre of student. What is fair to say is that it is a different job with different pressures, and that students take it without being told what those pressures are. Correcting that is the whole purpose of this page.
Before any of the detail, the entity question, because it causes real confusion. ICICI Bank is a bank. ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, ICICI Lombard General Insurance, ICICI Securities and ICICI Prudential Asset Management are separate listed or distinct companies in the same broader group, each with its own hiring, its own work and its own career ladder. "I got a job in ICICI" is therefore an incomplete sentence, and a life-insurance sales role and a bank branch role are not two versions of one thing. Read the name of the employer on the offer letter, not the name on the building.
Two boundaries on everything below. Programme names, eligibility criteria, selection stages, training structures and application windows are set per cycle and they change — treat this page as orientation, and confirm every specific against the official ICICI Careers site and the actual posting you are applying to. And every figure here is indicative rather than quoted: private-bank pay varies by role family, city, route and season, and a large part of it in customer-facing roles is variable rather than fixed, which a headline CTC does not show you.
Roles & packages
| Role | Package | How to qualify |
|---|---|---|
| Probationary-officer-style training programme | Indicative ₹3.5–5 LPA after confirmation; check what the stipend is during training | The structured graduate entry: a training period combining classroom learning with on-the-job branch exposure, then placement into an officer role. Structure, duration, delivery partner and terms differ per cycle and are the part to read most carefully — see the FAQ on programme fees and bonds |
| Relationship manager and retail sales | Indicative ₹2.5–4 LPA fixed, with a variable component on top | The largest fresher door and the most openly target-carrying one — acquiring and servicing customers for accounts, deposits, cards, loans and investment products. Communication and persistence matter far more here than marks; the targets are real and are discussed in the tips below |
| Branch operations and service | Indicative ₹2.5–3.5 LPA | Teller, service and processing roles inside the branch — transactions, account servicing, documentation, compliance checks. Less target pressure than sales, more procedural accuracy, and an underrated route because it teaches you how a bank actually works from the inside |
| Technology, digital and data | Indicative; generally above the branch-banking bands, closer to product and captive-centre levels | A large private bank runs substantial in-house engineering — core banking platforms, mobile and internet banking, payments, data and analytics. Smaller and more competitive intakes than the branch network, and usually a separate application route entirely |
| Credit, risk and analytics | Indicative; varies widely by specialisation and qualification | Credit appraisal, underwriting support, risk and regulatory reporting. Often looks for a finance, statistics or commerce background, a professional qualification in progress, or a postgraduate degree; genuinely open to freshers but in small numbers |
| Group companies — insurance, securities, asset management | Indicative; commonly weighted toward variable pay in sales roles | Separate companies rather than departments of the bank. Real jobs and real careers, but a different employer, a different product and often a heavier incentive-linked structure. Know which one you have applied to before the interview, not after |
Exam pattern
| Section | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Identifying the entity and the role family | Not a stage anyone administers, and the one that decides everything after it. Is this the bank or a group company? Is the role sales, operations, technology or credit? The assessments, the daily work and the career all follow from that answer |
| Application route | Campus placement where your institution is visited, a structured training programme intake, or a direct opening on the official careers site. There is no single national written exam of the IBPS kind that everybody sits on one date, which is exactly why students who wait for one miss these roles entirely |
| Online assessment | Where one is used, typically quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, English and situational or behavioural judgement — the last of those weighted more than students expect for customer-facing roles. Technology tracks sit a role-appropriate technical assessment instead |
| Group discussion or group activity | Common for sales and relationship intakes, because the panel is watching how you behave in a room rather than what you know. Contributing something specific, letting others finish, and bringing a stalled group back to the topic are worth more than speaking most |
| Personal interview | Why banking, why a customer-facing role, what you understand about the products, and how you respond to a target you are behind on. For operations, accuracy and process temperament; for credit, whether you can read a set of numbers; for technology, an ordinary technical round |
| Documentation, verification and joining formalities | Banks verify backgrounds thoroughly and slowly, and regulated employers are strict about discrepancies. Expect address, education, employment and reference checks, and expect the timeline to be longer than an IT offer |
Selection rounds
- Work out whether the opening is at ICICI Bank itself or at a group company, and which role family it belongs to — do this before you apply, not in the interview
- Apply through the route that opening actually uses: campus placement, a structured training-programme intake, or a specific posting on the official ICICI Careers site
- Online assessment where the route uses one — aptitude, reasoning, English and situational judgement, or a technical assessment for technology roles
- Group discussion or group activity, common for sales and relationship intakes
- Personal interview on motivation, product understanding, and how you handle pressure and rejection
- Offer, documentation and background verification — read the training terms, the notice period and any bond or service-agreement clause before you sign
Syllabus: what to prepare
| Area | Topics |
|---|---|
| Quantitative aptitude and data interpretation | Percentages, ratios, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, averages, time and work, and reading a table or chart quickly. Interest calculations are not a formality here — they are the arithmetic of the product you will be selling and servicing |
| Logical reasoning | Series, seating arrangements, blood relations, syllogisms, coding-decoding, puzzles. Standard placement-level preparation carries this; there is no separate banking variety of reasoning |
| English and communication | Comprehension, error spotting, sentence correction, and — more importantly — speaking clearly and courteously under mild pressure. This is the section that decides customer-facing selections more often than any other, and the one students under-prepare because it cannot be crammed the night before |
| Banking and financial awareness | What a bank does with deposits and lending, CASA and why banks care about current and savings accounts, the difference between a debit and a credit card commercially, what a fixed deposit and a recurring deposit are, what a mutual fund is and why a bank distributes them, what KYC is and why it exists, the role of the Reserve Bank of India as the regulator. An afternoon of reading, and the single highest-return preparation on this list |
| Basic accounting and finance | For commerce and management students: journal and ledger basics, the three financial statements at a conceptual level, and being able to read a simple balance sheet. Essential for credit and analytics tracks, a clear advantage in interviews for the rest |
| Situational and sales judgement | What you do when a customer is angry, when a product is not right for the person in front of you, when you are behind target with a week left, and when a colleague suggests a shortcut on documentation. There are better and worse answers, and the better ones are almost always the ones that do not compromise the customer or the record |
| Technology track, where that is the door | One programming language properly, data structures at a moderate level, SQL with joins and grouping written rather than recited, and one project you can defend. The bar here is an ordinary engineering bar, not a banking one — the banking part is context, not a prerequisite |
Sample questions
- What is CASA, and why would a bank care more about a savings account balance than about a fixed deposit of the same amount?
- Explain the difference between a fixed deposit and a recurring deposit to someone who has never had either.
- A customer wants a loan and does not meet the criteria. Walk me through exactly what you say to them.
- What is KYC, and why do you think the regulator requires it?
- Calculate the simple interest and then the compound interest on ₹50,000 at 8% for two years, and explain to a customer why the two numbers differ.
- You are two weeks from the end of the month and well behind your target. What do you actually do?
- A colleague suggests getting a document signed now and filling in the details later to close a case before the deadline. What do you do?
- Why a bank, and why a customer-facing role rather than a back-office one?
- Sell me a savings account. Assume I already have one at another bank.
- What does the Reserve Bank of India do, in your own words?
- Write a SQL query to list customers whose average monthly balance fell below a threshold in any of the last three months. (Technology and analytics tracks)
- Tell me about a time you were rejected or told no repeatedly. What did you do the next day?

- Decide honestly whether you can carry a target before you accept a sales role, and do it now rather than in month three. A relationship or acquisition role means a number you are measured against every month, conversations with people who did not ask to speak to you, and being told no far more often than yes. Plenty of people find that energising and build excellent careers on it. Plenty of others find it grinding, leave within a year, and conclude that banking was not for them when the accurate conclusion is that one role family within banking was not. Ask what the target is, how it is measured and what happens when it is missed — and if the interviewer is vague, treat the vagueness as information.
- Your Telugu is a professional asset here, not something to apologise for. This is one of the few graduate careers where being fluent in the language your customers actually speak is directly valuable — in a branch in Guntur, Warangal or Kakinada, the officer who can explain a loan clause properly in Telugu and then read the English document accurately is more useful than a more polished English speaker who cannot. Students from Telugu-medium backgrounds routinely undersell themselves in exactly the interview where the skill counts most. Prepare in both languages and say so.
- Read the terms of any structured training programme carefully and completely before you commit — this is the most consequential paragraph on the page. Legitimate bank training programmes exist and are worth doing, and some of them do involve a genuine course fee, a loan arrangement or a service agreement, because the bank is funding months of formal training before you produce anything. That is a real commercial arrangement, not a trick. What you must do is establish exactly what you are agreeing to: what the fee or bond is, what the stipend during training is, what happens financially if you leave early or are not confirmed, and whether the offer at the end is a commitment or a possibility. Get all of it in writing on the official document, and if anything is only being said verbally, it does not exist.
- Learn the difference between that and a scam, because fake bank jobs are among the most common frauds aimed at graduates in this region. A genuine process runs through the bank's own careers site or your placement cell, communicates from official channels, and never asks an individual to transfer money to a personal account, pay a "security deposit" for an offer letter, or share an OTP or bank credentials with a recruiter. If a payment is demanded to a personal UPI ID, or if an offer arrives for a job you never applied to, it is fraud regardless of how good the letterhead looks. Our page on online job scams goes through the specific patterns.
- Do not dismiss branch operations as the lesser option. Service and processing roles carry less target pressure and teach you the mechanics of the institution — how an account is actually opened, where a payment can fail, why a document matters — which is knowledge that makes you better at almost every other role in the bank later. Several strong banking careers start on that side of the counter rather than in front of it.
- Spend one afternoon on banking awareness, because the return is disproportionate. Most candidates for these roles arrive able to say they are hardworking and unable to explain what CASA is or why a bank distributes mutual funds. Knowing what the products are, what the bank earns from them and why the regulator exists converts a generic "why banking?" answer into a specific one, and it takes hours rather than weeks.
- Read the compensation structure rather than the headline. In customer-facing roles a meaningful share of pay is variable and linked to performance, which means the number quoted to you is a good month and not a guaranteed one. Ask what is fixed, what is variable, what the variable is calculated on, and whether there is a travel or allowance component — and compare offers on fixed pay first, because that is the part that arrives regardless.
- Use the branch network to your advantage if you want to stay near home. This is the genuine structural benefit of banking over IT for students from coastal Andhra and north Telangana: a bank has branches in towns where no technology company has anything at all, so a career that does not require relocating to Hyderabad or Bengaluru is actually available. Placement to a specific location is never guaranteed and transfers happen, so ask about the posting policy — but the option exists here in a way it does not in most of the rest of this site.
- Be exact in every declaration. Regulated employers verify education, addresses, gaps and prior employment thoroughly, and a discrepancy discovered after joining is a much larger problem than whatever it was about. State everything precisely as it is, including anything you would rather explain than write down.
Frequently asked questions
Is a private bank job a good option for a fresher who is not from a CS background?
It is one of the better ones, and for a large share of graduates in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana it is more realistic than the software track they were told to aim for. A bank hires commerce, management, science, arts and engineering graduates into the same customer-facing and operations roles, and it hires in far more towns than the IT industry does. What it asks for instead of a technical degree is communication, numeric comfort, temperament under pressure and willingness to be measured on results. That is a real filter, not an easier one — but it is a filter a great many students pass and never test because they think of banking as what you do when nothing else works out. The honest framing is that it is a different career, with a different daily texture and a different kind of difficulty, and it deserves to be chosen rather than defaulted into.
What roles does ICICI Bank hire freshers into?
Broadly four families. Structured training programmes take graduates through a training period and into officer roles. Relationship and sales roles are the largest door and the most openly target-carrying — acquiring and servicing customers across accounts, deposits, cards, loans and investment products. Branch operations and service roles handle transactions, documentation and compliance inside the branch. And technology, digital, data, credit and risk functions hire smaller and more specialised intakes, usually through separate routes. Which of these are open, what they are called and what they require changes per cycle, so check the official ICICI Careers site for the current openings rather than relying on any secondary description, this one included.
Do I have to pay for a probationary officer or training programme? Is that legitimate?
Both a legitimate arrangement and a common scam pattern exist here, and confusing them is expensive in opposite directions, so be precise. Structured bank training programmes sometimes do carry a genuine course fee, an education-loan arrangement or a service agreement, because the bank funds months of formal training before you do productive work. Those terms appear on official documentation, are administered by the bank or a named training institution, and are disclosed before you commit. A fraud looks different: payment demanded to an individual's account or personal UPI ID, a "security deposit" in exchange for an offer letter, urgency and secrecy, communication from personal email or messaging accounts, or an offer for a job you never applied for. The rule that separates them reliably is that a real employer never asks an individual to transfer money to a personal account for a job. Before committing to any programme, get the fee, the stipend, the confirmation terms and the exit consequences in writing on official documentation, and verify the opening on the bank's own careers site.
Will I have sales targets, and how hard are they?
In relationship, acquisition and most customer-facing roles, yes — a monthly number you are measured against is the structure of the job rather than an unpleasant add-on to it. How hard it is depends on the product, the location, the branch and the support around you, which is why a blanket answer would be dishonest, and it is precisely what to ask about in the interview: what the target is, how it is measured, what support exists, and what happens in a month you miss it. Operations and service roles carry less of this, and technology, credit and analytics roles are not structured around it at all. The mistake worth avoiding is accepting a target-carrying role while privately assuming the target is notional. It is not, and discovering that in month three is a bad way to start a career. If the pressure suits you, these roles pay for performance in a way few fresher jobs do.
How is this different from a government bank job through IBPS or the SBI exam?
They are different careers that students group into one category called "bank job", and the differences are structural. A government banking post is reached by clearing a competitive national written examination on a fixed calendar, typically carries permanence and defined retirement benefits, comes with a posting anywhere in the country that you may not choose, and follows a seniority-linked progression. A private bank role is reached through an ordinary application and interview, is applied for at a specific location, pays more variably and often more at the top end, progresses on performance, and carries far less job security in exchange. Neither is better in the abstract; they suit different people and different risk appetites. The practical point for a final-year student is that private-bank hiring runs all year while exam results take cycles — which makes doing both possible in a way most people are never told. Our community answer on family pressure toward government exam preparation works through that decision, including the middle path.
What package do freshers get at ICICI Bank?
Treat every figure here and anywhere else as indicative and unverified — bands differ by role family, city, route and season, and they move. Structurally, what is broadly true is that branch sales and operations roles sit in the general fresher bands common outside the IT services track, structured officer programmes typically sit above them on confirmation, and technology, credit and analytics roles are higher again. The more useful habit than chasing a number is reading the offer: what is fixed, what is variable, what the variable is actually calculated on, and what allowances exist. In customer-facing banking roles that gap matters more than in most jobs, because a quoted CTC often assumes full achievement of the variable component. Compare the fixed pay first — our offer comparison tool exists for exactly this — and treat anything performance-linked as upside rather than as salary.
Do I need a commerce or finance degree to apply?
For most customer-facing and operations roles, no. Banks hire graduates from engineering, science, arts and management streams into these roles, and nobody expects a fresher to arrive with banking expertise. A commerce or finance background genuinely helps for credit, risk and analytics tracks, and helps a little everywhere by making the products familiar faster. What is worth building regardless of your degree is basic banking awareness, comfort with everyday interest and percentage arithmetic, and the ability to explain something clearly to someone who does not know it. Be sceptical of paid certifications marketed as mandatory for banking jobs — for a fresher applying to these roles they are rarely the deciding factor, and the same hours spent on communication practice and product understanding do considerably more.
Does ICICI Bank hire in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, or only in metros?
Branch banking is the one graduate career on this site that genuinely reaches beyond the metros, because a bank puts branches where customers are rather than where an office park is. That means hiring happens across Hyderabad and also in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Guntur, Warangal, Tirupati, Kakinada, Nellore and smaller towns, which is a structural advantage over the IT track for any student who wants to stay near family. Two honest qualifications. Placement to a specific location is generally not guaranteed for a fresher, and transfers are a normal part of a banking career, so ask about the posting and transfer policy rather than assuming. And technology, credit and analytics roles are concentrated in a few large centres rather than distributed like the branch network, so the near-home option applies mostly to branch-facing roles.
Is ICICI Bank the same as ICICI Prudential, ICICI Lombard or ICICI Securities?
No, and this catches students every season. ICICI Bank is the bank. ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, ICICI Lombard General Insurance, ICICI Securities and ICICI Prudential Asset Management are separate companies in the broader group, with their own hiring processes, their own products and their own career paths. They are legitimate employers and a sales role in insurance or broking can be a perfectly good start — but it is a different job from a bank branch role, usually with a different compensation structure weighted more heavily toward incentives, and it is not a route into the bank by default. Before an interview, check which company the posting names, and ask directly if it is unclear. The name to trust is the one on the offer letter.
I am in the 2027 batch. What should I do now?
Four things, in order of return. First, work on spoken English and on explaining things clearly, because that is what decides customer-facing selections and it is the one skill here that genuinely takes months — practise out loud, in both English and Telugu, until you can explain a product to someone who knows nothing about it. Second, spend a few afternoons on banking awareness: deposits and lending, CASA, cards, what a mutual fund is, what KYC is, what the RBI does. Third, keep quantitative aptitude and reasoning ticking over, with extra attention to interest and percentage calculations, since you will sit ordinary assessments for these roles and everywhere else. Fourth, get any customer-facing experience you can — a campus role, a part-time job, volunteering that involves persuading people — because a concrete story about handling someone difficult is worth more in this interview than any certificate. And apply widely when the season comes: there is no single exam date to watch here, which means openings appear through the year and the students who check regularly are the ones who find them.
