Free mock interview practice by text — as often as you want

Not always in a quiet room? Phiny's text interviews work like a chat: the AI interviewer asks, you type, it responds and moves through the interview. You get the same kind of scored report as the voice interview.

Text interviews are free and unlimited. Practise at 2 AM before a drive, practise fifty times — nobody is counting.

How it works

  1. Type the role you are practising for and, if you have it, paste the job description.
  2. Pick the difficulty, the round (full, technical, HR or managerial) and the length.
  3. Answer each question in the chat at your own pace. For technical rounds you can include a live coding problem.
  4. Finish the interview and get your scored report with per-question feedback — then fix the weak answers and run it again.

What you get

  • Unlimited interviews at no cost
  • Questions built from the role and, if you paste it, the job description
  • A scored report with feedback on every answer
  • Optional coding problems inside technical interviews

Who it is for

  • Students who want daily interview practice without any cost
  • Anyone practising in a hostel, library or on a phone
  • Candidates rehearsing structured answers before trying the voice interview

Why a text mock interview works

Typing an answer forces you to decide what you actually mean. When you write out "Tell me about yourself", you notice that half of it is your marks and none of it is what you can do. When you explain polymorphism in your own words, you find out whether you understand it or only remember the textbook line. That is exactly the work you need to do before an interview — and it is easier to do at your own pace than live.

Because text interviews are free and unlimited, you can practise the way people learn anything else: little and often. One interview a day in the weeks before placement season does more than a single long session the night before.

What you can set up

  • Role — any job title, such as "Software Engineer (Java)", "Data Analyst" or "Associate Consultant".
  • Job description (optional) — paste it for sharper, role-specific questions, or leave it blank.
  • Difficulty — easy for freshers (0–1 years), medium (1–3 years) or hard (3+ years).
  • Round — a full mixed interview, a technical round, an HR round or a managerial round.
  • Length — 15, 30 or 45 minutes.
  • Live coding — technical and full interviews can include a hands-on coding problem in Python, Java, C++ or JavaScript.

Sample questions by round

Questions are generated for your role and description, and follow-ups depend on your answers. These examples show the kind of question each round asks a fresher.

  • HR: "Tell me about yourself." / "Why should we hire you over other candidates from your college?" / "Are you willing to work in shifts or relocate?"
  • Technical (CSE/IT fresher): "Explain the difference between a process and a thread." / "What is normalisation, and why would you denormalise a table?"
  • Projects: "What was the hardest bug in your project, and how did you find it?"
  • Managerial: "You are given two urgent tasks by two different leads. How do you decide what to do first?"
  • Coding: a short problem — for example, reversing the words in a sentence or finding the first non-repeating character — solved in the editor and checked against tests.

Turn feedback into better answers

  1. Read the feedback for your lowest-scoring answer first. It usually names one problem: too generic, no example, or no result.
  2. Rewrite that answer in your notes using a simple structure — situation, what you did, what happened.
  3. Run the same role again. Questions will not repeat word for word, but the same topics will come back, and you will see whether the fix holds.
  4. Once answers are solid, switch the round: a technical round, then HR, then a full mixed interview.
  5. When you are ready for pressure, rehearse delivery in a voice AI mock interview.

Free and unlimited — what is the catch?

There is no catch for text practice: text interviews never use credits, however many you do. Phiny charges credits only for features that cost more to run — voice interviews and some AI resume enhancements — and the app shows the cost before you use one. New accounts also get free voice interviews to start.

Mock interviews for TCS, Infosys, Accenture and other recruiters

Mass recruiters usually interview freshers in a technical round and an HR round, sometimes combined into one. Paste the role description from the drive notice, choose easy difficulty, and practise both rounds. The company guides explain each recruiter's test and interview process:

  • TCS NQT — exam pattern, Ninja vs Digital, interview rounds
  • Infosys — SE, DSE and SP roles, test pattern and interview
  • Accenture — assessment pattern and interview rounds
  • Wipro — Elite NTH test pattern and interview questions
  • Cognizant — GenC, Elevate and Pro tracks, test pattern
  • Capgemini — game-based test, pseudo-code and interviews

Frequently asked questions

Is it really unlimited and free?

Yes. Text interviews do not use credits, however many you do. You only need a free Phiny account.

How is a text interview different from the voice interview?

You type instead of speaking, at your own pace. Voice adds the pressure of answering out loud, which is the next step once your answers are solid.

How is my answer scored?

On relevance and depth for the role: specific examples, decisions you made and results score well; generic or off-topic answers score low, with feedback on why.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes, it works in a mobile browser. No camera or microphone is needed.

Can I practise only the HR round?

Yes. Choose the HR round when you set up the interview. You can also pick a technical, managerial or full mixed interview.

Does it include coding questions?

Technical and full interviews can include a live coding problem in Python, Java, C++ or JavaScript. You can switch it off.

Which difficulty should a fresher choose?

Start with easy, which is set for 0–1 years of experience. Move to medium once you are scoring well, especially for product-company roles.

Can I practise for a specific company like TCS or Infosys?

Yes. Paste the job description from the drive notice or careers page and the questions follow its requirements.
